The whole experience of staying at this hotel was fantastic, and the staff make you feel very welcome and special. My partner loved it, so did i and i am really glad i booked it. It is quite expensive, but for a special occasion its perfect. As long as you dont say yes to all the extra things they offer you, like wake up calls and newspapers etc.. The mini bar in the room by the way is stacked with cool things, but some stuff is really pricey! Thats all. We had dinner at a restaurant on Watergate street called 'upstairs at the grll'.
It was fab, the food was out of this world! All in all i give the hotel 10 out of Exceptionally helpful, friendly, well trained professional staff. Lovely room, wonderful bed. Beautifully furnished and decorated elsewhere.

Dinner and breakfast delicious and perfectly served - as was the champagne in the bar before dinner. Great position in centre of Chester. This is a lovely city and we should have had a longer stay. Hotels should not be allowed to do this. I have travelled all over the world and have experienced this many times, but never in what was once such a well respected, and managed hotel! I have to comment of the management as when I asked to speak to the manager, the girl behind the front desk took a while to find out which manager was on and when I did get to speak to them, they seemed so disinterested that I felt like checking out there and then.
We had planned on eating in the Arkle restaurant; having heard so much about it, but decided otherwise due to the reception we receive when we first arrived. The only saving grace was the fantastic Concierge. He was so very helpful and recommended a fantastic restaurant called the Olive Tree at the Green Bough Hotel. I have to agree with the other review that next time I stay in Chester I will be booking into the Green Bough as it is a lovely small hotel and the staff there made us both feel so welcome I was actually sad to leave and go back to the Five Star hotel.
It just proves that size does not always matter! The hotel is in a great location right on the main shopping street in the middle of the city. We had our evening meal in the La Brasserie restaurant which was very poor for a 5 star hotel, the breakfast was worse with some things on a limited menu unavailable. My wife ordered a " special omlette " which we could barely find on an empty plate! The toast was good though. When we stay in Chester again it will be at the Green Bough. When we arrived we were greeted by the sight of scaffolding covering the whole of the front of the hotel.
As our room was facing the front, this meant very little view! However there were no workmen working on the Saturday so it didn't seem to be too much of a problem. We were checked in by a very friendly and polite man, to whom nothing was too much trouble. Our Room was beautiful. The television let out a loud squealing noise after being on for more than a minute though!
The Chester Grosvenor Hotel
At around 11pm, two couples could be heard arguing and slamming doors, the walls were paper thin so we could hear every word they said, however loud the squeal on the television was! Then the noise from the drunks outside started, singing, shouting and fighting, this was almost constant till around 3am. When we opened the curtains at 8. I appreciate the drunks are out of the hotels control and that is just a downfall to staying in the city centre, but I do feel we should have been told on booking that there were workmen there or had a discounted room rate as a result.

In the hotel's defence breakfast was delicious and most of the staff were friendly! This is the 2nd time we have stayed at the Grosvenor and wouldn't dream of staying at another hotel in chester you couldn't get a better location, both the hotel restaurants are fantastic and the spa BLISS you have got to try it, this time we booked an executive double room and it was definately worth the extra the room was huge and very luxuriously decorated,on arrival to the room I was greeted by the most beautiful bouquet of red roses arranged by the hotel and my husband of course!!
I really can not recommend this hotel enough I am alredy excited about our next visit! We had a wonderful weekend, starting with the "double upgrade" from a Classic to an Executive room. The most noticeable thing about this hotel is that it's properly staffed, so that everywhere is well-maintained and spotlessly clean, and every member of staff has time for you. We ate at the Brasserie for two nights and at a friendly but cheap'n'cheerful Italian on the third evening, recommended by Dave the friendly and helpful concierge.
We apologize for the inconvenience...
Breakfast and evening meals were superb, beautifully presented, and a real treat. We also made good use of the Spa, although I don't think we were quite reverential enough for the Spa ladies they take it all very seriously! Yes, it's expensive, though you can get deals but you really do get what you pay for here. And if you ask, they will give you a hospitality tray. Guests and visitors have the choice of two restaurants, including 'Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor' which has held a prestigious Michelin star since , alongside the luxuriously comfortable Arkle Bar and Lounge, a wonderfully tranquil spa centre offering a range of treatments, as well as a variety of function rooms for meetings and private events.
