People came over and lunched or dined occasionally. A flurry of wheels on the drive announced them and the murmur of different voices echoed up from the hall as I grandly descended the polished oak staircase very careful not to slip in my new patent shoes.

Small memories are most insistent and I like to catch again for a moment, the feel of the sharp spring air as we drove home at night after a concert, the smell of a wood fire in the library where we discussed over hot soup and sandwiches the triumphs of the evening. All the warm comfortable ingredients of country house life were there, the very unfamiliarity of the atmosphere enhancing its charm for me.

This was our third stay at Hambleton Hall and it seems to get better and better. Our room was comfortable and well appointed and our dog was welcomed. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We had the tasting menu: what superb food and what well chosen wines to accompany it. Description
It is set against the backdrop of Rutland , water in the tiniest of hamlets, with not much else around it. We had the Croquet Pavillion suite, a delightful dog friendly suite of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and drawing room. It was hugely comfortable in the lounge area with plump sofas and chairs to melt into and a log fire , it had a well equipped kitchen and two lovely bedrooms and bathrooms with Penhaligon products.
Iti is situated about feet from the main house, so it was superbly quiet, and a place designed to chill out in. We ate in the restaurant and had a three course dinner of Crab , followed by the best rare breed pork dish ever, yummy!
This place is rarefied in its old style charm, staff were delightful. Breakfast was delicious. There was also a great dressing room and separate shower and toilet ensuite to the massive main bedroom, bathroom.
