Fujifilm X-T3 Body Only Black BUNDLE DEAL

This camera is a dream for natural light shooters. A lot of its benefits are lost on people that use flash extensively I expect. I started writing this review after 3 days of ownership and now it has nearly been a week. Going back to my D, the D feels faster in terms of autofocus, really much faster, but it feels remote. I dont feel as connected to the camera. I have started to feel like the X-E1 really sucks you in and makes you shoot its way. Like it has a style and a way where a DSLR has none. That was never my intention.

I wanted a 2 camera setup for professional work. But it will become my primary camera. I still love my D I like each for different reasons and they fill different roles. While it might be tempting to think of the X-E1 as a stripped back X-Pro1, that does it something of a disservice in that the X-E1 is a great camera in its own right. These issues aside, and the X-E1 is a joy to shoot with. By far the biggest selling point of the X-E1, however, is its sensor.

In our opinion, the Fujifilm X-E1 is one of the most — if not the most — beautiful digital cameras on the market today, on par with the X-Pro1 and the X The X-E1 is also a true joy to use, especially for photographers who love shooting with older manual film cameras that feature similar designs and controls.

If that describes you, you finally have an even more affordable option than the X-Pro1 to cross the analog-to-digital bridge to. However, what you lose in a major feature — the hybrid viewfinder — you gain in portability due to its smaller size and lighter weight. Should you buy it? Absolutely, for stellar images. But not if you want bells and whistles. The caveats include mediocre autofocus, crappy video mode and weird RAW noise patterns.

But this is a good low cost alternative to the X-Pro1.

Mike Kobal shows what the E-X1 is capable of:. I love shooting with the X-E1. It is just the right size, smaller then the X-Pro1 and slightly larger then the X I am a big fan of manual aperture and shutter speed dials, being able to see those settings instantly, even when the camera is turned off, is a huge plus.

The discreet shutter sound makes candid shooting easy. Autofocus is extremely accurate, especially when shooting wide open with the 35mm F1. Fujifilm gets it right this time and kudos for listening and updating the firmware.

Behind the Shot: Fire Crane Flight

The Fujifilm X-E1 is a modern day classic, but not in the mainstream sense. The X-E1 delivers exactly the same excellent image quality as its big brother. Noise is noticeable only by its almost complete absence throughout the ISO range of ,, while the Dynamic Range function helps to boost contrast and detail. The new mm lens is also worthy of mention, with the fast maximum apertures making it easy to creatively throw the background out of focus, and delivering sharp results throughout the focal range.

The X-E1 is certainly right up there with the best APS-C sensor cameras on the market, and some full-frame models too. The Fujifilm X-E1 feels even more like the natural interchangeable lens evolution of the incredibly popular X camera than the X-Pro1 did, offering refined, intuitive handling, fantastic image quality, premium build quality and five high-quality lenses on launch. The Fujifilm X-E1 provides not only excellent image quality but transforms photography into pure enjoyment.

The excellent ergonomics, mechanical controls and discreet, but high quality appearance speak a clear language. Weight and dimensions have been reduced so that it can compete easily with the mirrorless competition. If you can live with minor drawbacks, you will own a camera that leaves nothing to be desired.

The new Fujifilm X-E1 is the closest thing to perfection to come along since the dawn of the eletronic viewfinder, large sensor camera, at least when it comes to my needs. The image quality of the files is nothing short of amazing. High ISO performance is clearly one of the best in the APS-C market, and it leaves me amazed at just how good it performs in low light.

The color rendition of the files is beautiful, and the auto white balance seem to be bang-on. And did I mention sharp? Wow, is the X-E1 ever capable of producing some really sharp results, due in part to its lack of AA filter …. They have given us something interesting: cameras aimed at photographers who want a great mix of modern technology and tactile, ergonomically well-designed, but small bodies; and these are cameras capable of stunning image quality.

With the X and X-E1, they definitely have me on their side. Anyone who tried the X-Pro1 and found it a bit too big will be very happy now. Same functions, same controls, same sensor, just smaller and cheaper. These double up as magnifier and delete buttons in playback mode. On the base of the X-E1 the tripod bush is offset from the lens axis, close to the door to the combined battery and SD card compartment; had it been centrally located you could have switched cards without removing the camera from a tripod or removing a quick-release plate from the camera base.

The remaining battery power is shown by a three-segment icon on the rear screen and in the viewfinder. The X-E1 has a built-in flash unit that pops up from the top panel and retracts when not in use. To extend the flash you press a button just behind it on the rear panel which activates an internal mechanical catch allowing the flash to spring up and forwards, providing good clearance from the lens.

Even with the lens and hood attached, you need to be very close to the subject in order to produce a lens shadow with the flash. The EVF is proportioned and displays shooting mode and exposure information at the bottom of the screen with a scale for exposure compensation overlayed on the left. Pressing the display button provides a more detailed customisable information overlay that includes a grid overlay, single-axis level, AF and MF distance scales, live histogram, metering mode, film simulation, dynamic range, frames remaining, image size and quality, and battery level.

I frequently found myself having to remove my left hand from the lens barrel to shield the eyepiece from the light. The rear LCD screen measures 2.

A smaller and sleeker Fuji X-Pro1... what's not to like?

The screen has a resolution of k dots — so it also falls well below the 1. On a camera with such a capable electronic viewfinder I think this is much less of an issue than it would otherwise be. In this respect, the EOS M, with no viewfinder or even the option to fit one, and a fixed LCD screen is arguably the worst of all possible worlds.

The mount exploits the absence of a low-pass filter to achieve a very short flange back-distance of Indeed the distance between the sensor and the rear element of the 18mm f2 is just 11mm. Due to the APS-C size of the sensor, the field of view is effectively reduced by 1. At the time of launch, the X-mount system consisted of three fixed focal length prime lenses. The XF18mm f2 R with an equivalent focal length of 27mm, a maximum aperture of f2. The XF35mm f1. Finally, the longest of the initial three is the XF60mm f2.

Coinciding with the launch of the X-E1 Fujifilm has added two new lenses to the range. The first is a general purpose 3x zoom with an equivalent range of mm; the Fujinon XFmm f2. This is not only the first zoom for the X Mount, but the first to also provide image stabilisation. It also differs from the other lenses in the range in that rather than an aperture ring with fixed values it has an unmarked ring that rotates through degrees.

The currently selected aperture value, which varies depending on the zoom, is displayed in the viewfinder and on the screen. The mm f2. Like the primes the kit zoom boasts a respectably bright focal ratio with rounded aperture blades and metal construction. Fujifilm claims three stops of stabilisation for the mm zoom, a claim I tested by shooting with it zoomed to the maximum 83mm equivalent focal length and shooting sequences of images at progressively slower shutter speeds with the stabilisation turned on and then with it off.

As with the EOS M, and indeed any recently introduced lens mount, options will be limited for a time, but with five lenses already available and another five planned by the end of , Fujifilm seems determined to grow the X-mount library at a fast pace. Among the lenses planned for release in are a 56mm 84mm equivalent f1. Both the new zooms, like the mm will be stabilised.

On the prime lenses, which have marked aperture positions, setting the aperture ring to the A position sets the aperture automatically. It takes a series of shots as you pan the camera and then stitches them together.

You can shoot panoramas with the camera in landscape or portrait orientation with a maximum resolution of x or x respectively. The size is determined by the horizontal angle of view which at its widest setting can capture a degree view with the 18mm lens. Motion Panorama mode is selected from the Drive menu which in addition to continuous shooting and movie modes offers a range of bracketing options including AE, ISO, film simulation and dynamic range bracketing.

Video is encoded using the h. Stereo sound is recorded via twin mics located in front of the hotshoe on the top panel. Unlike many mirrorless compact system cameras which put movie recording on an almost equal footing with stills shooting, on both the X-Pro 1 and X-E1, movies are very much a second string. With no dedicated movie record button, you must first select movie mode from the Drive menu before pressing the shutter release to start and stop recording; you can assign the Fn button to switch to movie mode, but you still need to press the shutter release to begin recording.

The X-E1 suffers from the same quirk I reported on the X-Pro 1, where a second press of the Fn button returns you to the still image capture mode — not the mode you were previously in.
